Adelbert Ames

The Ames Room was named after the American ophthalmologist Adelbert Ames Jr.. It was first constructed in 1946 based on a concept contrived from Herman Helmholtz. The Ames room functions on the back of two different illusions. The room appears cubic when view from the right angel when in actuality it is trapezoidal and people and objects appear to grow or shrink when they move from one side of the room to the other.
